The Afrikaanse Christelike Vrouevereniging (ACVV) is a Christian women’s organization that was established in 1904 and is one of the oldest welfare organizations in South Africa. 115 Branches in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, and North West province are affiliated to the National Council with the Head office in Cape Town. The ACVV is one of only a few designated child protection organizations (DCPO) in South Africa. In terms of the Children’s Act, it means that the ACVV may render the full scope of child protection services, i.e. from prevention programs to statutory intervention.
ACVV Paarl-Vallei
The branch is situated in Northern Paarl and is managed by local volunteers. The branch has its own Board that oversees all services and manages its own finances.
The area in which ACVV Paarl-Vallei renders services is very big and stretches from Plein Street in Paarl to the farm areas of Agter Paarl, Windmeul, and Paardeberg and it is the only designated child protection organization in that area.
Child protection services are rendered by 2 Social workers and an auxiliary worker. In addition to the offices at 14 Lang Street in Northern Paarl, the social workers also visit satellite offices at Nieuwedrift primary school and clinic, Windmeul primary school and clinic, and the Uniting Reformed Church in Agter Paarl to bring services nearer to the rural community.
The Department of Social Development subsidizes the salaries of the social workers, therefore services are rendered in compliance with instructions of the department, and reports are submitted every quarter.
